Open water swimmers received gut flora-regenerating medications made from their own feces.
The French hosts insist that, after triathletes, open water swimmers also compete in the Seine, despite several of the former requiring hospitalization. All signs indicate that the organizers still have no B or C plans regarding a venue change, or they are trying to keep them secret. Meanwhile, the practical measures available to participants have broadened significantly to compensate, with the Hungarians, for example, opting for a preventive approach by providing swimmers with gut flora-regenerating medications. What is surprising is that to produce these quickly, they needed fecal samples from the competitors preparing for the race.
All competitors were asked to provide fecal samples, as these can be used to quickly produce a ‘personalized’ medication with potential gut flora-regenerating effects, informed Gábor Gellért, the head coach of the Hungarian open water swimming team, to SzPress News Agency.
For each swimmer, a different type of pill was made, with every competitor receiving 120 pills of their medication. Three pills from these must be taken daily. Of the three Hungarian representatives, Dávid Betlehem, Kristóf Rasovszky, and Bettina Fábián, one was unable to provide an adequate fecal sample; of course, I cannot mention their name.
On Wednesday morning, everything was ready on the Seine for the swimmers preparing for the 10-kilometer distance to participate in the official training session. However, the course remained sparsely populated.
